I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book to have an interesting concept. Based on the fairytale The Princess and the glass hill I thought the author did a wonderful job of turning it into so much more.
We start out with Kayla. A princess who is forced by her father to be a prize for her kingdom. Refusing to just take orders and do as she is told to takes matters into her own hands on more than one occasion.
Unfortunately her actions have consequences. She is forced into a task that she doesn't want. Thru this rebellion she meets Rane. Unbeknownst to Kayla he is using her for his own personal gain. Even if he regrets it at several points his brothers life is in the balance. He must succeed at all costs.
The adventure that these two endured brought them closer together. I liked that Kayla was resilient, headstrong, and had her own ideas. She was smart enough to save herself in various ways instead of waiting for someone else to do it for her. The wild magic was a plus!
I enjoyed watching their relationship developed throughout the story instead of instant love. To me Rane was a contradiction. He changed throughout the book as he opened up. I was expecting one thing at the beginning and got another.
I was disappointed that it left off as a cliffhanger but am really looking forward to the next book.
