Kate Kinsella has no choice but to go after Charley Barstow and talk some sense into him. After all, he’s skipped town, leaving a string of broken hearts and his pregnant fiancée, Agnes McPherson. But Kate didn’t count on being kidnapped by a band of criminals along the way!

Ethan Barstow is hot on his younger brother’s trail, too. He rescues Kate, believing her to be Charley’s fiancée, and suggests they try to find him together. Kate’s reluctance has him baffled.

All hell breaks loose when they discover Charley in search of a copper mine—not wishing to be found by anyone; certainly not Kate! But, then, Kate was always trouble—and now she’s brought it to his doorstep, with tales of a pregnant fiancée and his brother Ethan, who he hasn’t seen in five years.

Can Ethan and Kate ever find their own love and happiness with one another through the dark deception and hurt? Or will they both return INTO THE LAND OF SHADOWS…

Here's what

Fans are saying

Tighten that cinch because Into The Land Of Shadows is a fast paced ride. Ms. McCaffrey brings the time and locale – Arizona, 1893 – to life doing an artful job of painting the landscape and the people.

I appreciate her subtle use of dialect to evoke the time and place; she’s an author who knows that the right word here and there is more effective than loading dialogue with a lot of old timey phrases that become distracting.

I loved the hero Ethan: smart, capable, honorable and protective as well as hunky and sexy. Kate is everything a heroine should be and then some. The three miners, or as I thought of them - The Three Stooges - brought great comedy to the story.

There is a supernatural element that was handled extremely well. I never questioned what was happening but instead wondered what would happen next. It’s a great read from a very talented author. I recommend you treat yourself to a ride Into The Land Of Shadows.

Kristy McCaffrey's latest novel is a fast moving, stomach-clenching wild ride into and through the Lands of the Shadows, all the way to a love story realized on the beautiful family ranch in Trinidad. Kate finds her man Ethan and he helps her break through to life and family they both deserve.

Well written and especially well researched, this novel is yet another of hopefully many more to come enlightening our understanding of these mysterious Navaho lands and nearly but not quite quenching our thirst for the adventure and romance which Ms. McCaffery creates with her characters.

After such a read, which clearly shows persistence can lead to dreams coming true, we can only hope for more.

Author Bio

Kristy McCaffrey

Kristy McCaffrey has been writing since she was very young, but it wasn't until she was a stay-at-home mom that she considered becoming published. A fascination with science led her to earn two engineering degrees--she did her undergraduate work at Arizona State University and her graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh--but storytelling was always her favorite hobby.

Born and raised in Arizona, and recently returned after a 20-year absence in Pittsburgh, she writes Old West romances to capture the landscapes that were such a big part of her childhood. Her first novel, The Wren, was a CAPA winner for Best New Author Traditional, a Texas Gold finalist, and a HOLT Medallion finalist for Best First Book. The Sparrow was the 2012 Winter Rose Winner in the Published Historical Division.

She lives in the Arizona desert with her husband, where they frequently remove (rescue) rattlesnakes from their property. Her four teenaged children are in varying stages of flying the nest, so her two chocolate labs--Ranger and Lily--are the recipients of her maternal instincts these days.
