This week I watched:

How to Train Your Dragon (2010) by Dreamworks

Long ago up North on the Island of Berk, the young Viking, Hiccup, wants to join his town's fight against the dragons that continually raid their town. However, his macho father and village leader, Stoik the Vast, will not allow his small, clumsy, but inventive son to do so.

Regardless, Hiccup ventures out into battle and downs a mysterious Night Fury dragon with his invention, but can't bring himself to kill it. Instead, Hiccup and the dragon, whom he dubs Toothless, begin a friendship that would open up both their worlds as the observant boy learns that his people have misjudged the species.

But even as the two each take flight in their own way, they find that they must fight the destructive ignorance plaguing their world. (IMDB)

I had seen this movie only seven times before I watched it again this week. But come on, this movie ROCKS! First of all, I LOVE dragons! They're my favorite mythical creature and I couldn't resist them in animated form. Plus, this movie is hilarious! Hiccup is just too funny for words, and the fact that he named his dragon "Toothless"...I can't even... But HTTYD also has its emotional moments, which I love to see in animated features. Gives them a sense of reality and that they weren't just made to amuse you, but were made to also get you thinking and rile up your emotions. It's just great! I'm still not sure why I don't own this movie on DVD! I love it!

My rating: 5/5 STARS

Book I've Read:

Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle #1) by Christopher Paolini (2005)

When young Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his adopted family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of inescapable destiny, magical forces, and powerful people.

With only an ancient sword and the instruction of an old, mysterious, hermit storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a Emperor whose evil and power knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands…. (Goodreads)

Great book, even though it was very "LOTR-esque". But the dragon lore was AWESOME!

My rating: 4/5 STARS

Book I Want to Read:

Seraphina (Seraphina #1) by Rachel Hartman (2012)

Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life. (Goodreads)

The plot of this book sounds amazing. Dragons turning into humans and playing valuable roles in society? I'm in! It has great reviews and I can't wait to give this one a try.
