Which book cover is better? @etflint VS @JChaseNovelist

This is a "meme" started by Book Whore . Cover Wars takes two covers and puts them against each other. This is how crazy life has been: I forgot to do a Cover Wars post last week. Didn't realize it until I was gearing up for this one. Anyway, moving on. The only thing I have to say at this point is, "Are chainsaws sinful?"

I also have another series The Rys Chronicles, so altogether I have 8 fantasy novels out there. Not a bad fleet to take out on the high seas I'm thinking.

The Myth of the 5-STAR Rating

Image
Follow @dianthajones This article originally appeared on Diantha-Jones.com . To be honest, most books are not worth 5 STARS. A book may pull a five (or a four), but more times than not, they turn out to only be worth a three. Three is not bad, it’s just not five. Prophecy of the Most Beautiful Oracle of Delphi #1 Cover links to Amazon.com Please. Stop rolling your eyes and cursing me out through the LED and just listen a moment. 5-STAR BOOK RATINGS ARE GIVEN AWAY TOO FREELY. That’s the point I’m trying to make. How many times have you come across a book with fantastic ratings (mostly 5 Stars) and jumped right on it knowing that it had to be good, only to later want to jump off the roof of your freaking house because the thought of having to continue to read that piece of literary garbage is forcing you to consider ending it all? *Takes breath here* The value of the 5-Star rating has been greatly diminished, therefore, books that actually  de

Eye of the Beholder by @JackieWeger #romance #excerpt

Image
Eye of the Beholder cover links to Amazon by Jackie Weger Follow @JackieWeger Excerpt P hoebe’s pace hastened as she approached her truck parked in the lee of the building near the big trash compactor. She’d had to find a spot away from prying eyes because she couldn’t trust Maydean and Willie-Boy to behave without her standing over them. Like now, she noted, discovering Willie-Boy hanging out the window. “Did you get work?” he asked. “Not yet,” Phoebe said, brushing off the fact that the interviewer had insulted her down to muscle and bone. “I didn’t want that old job nohow. Dern it, Maydean. I told you not to mess with that mirror, didn’t I?” Twelve-year-old Maydean flounced. It took her whole body to do it. “How much money we got left, Phoebe? I’m hungry.”

Check out the Writers Words of Wisdom Facebook Group HERE . The following is syndicated from Romance Beckons and is posted here with permission. M arketing and promotion seem to be the bane of every writer’s existence. At times it feels like the constant need to market and promote is an up hill, never-ending, race toward insanity and if you try to stop you’ll fall into a pit of despair to die a lonely death while all the other writers of the world run past you to success.

Five Books You Should Read If You Want To Write a Book. (Plus 5 more)

Fall of the Citizens is Free June 21, 22 Click Here to go to Amazon Guest post by Eric Thomas Follow @etflint R eading is the most important aspect of a writer’s life. Simply put, if you’re not a voracious reader, you’re not going to be much of a writer. Pro writers will tell you, “It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, just read.” That’s true, but you’re gonna need a large base of good stuff before you charge ahead. If you’re going to sit down and tackle that novel burning inside you, you need to know the basics. Full disclosure: These are my basics. I’m sure if you’re a YA or erotica writer–your list will be quite different. Here’s mine:

Fall of the Citizens is Free June 21, 22 Click Here to go to Amazon Guest post by Eric Thomas Follow @etflint T he United States is off to war again. Before you tab away to check your Facebook page, please take a moment and think about that. In this saccharine slurry of constant distraction that turned the average American’s brain into nothing but an emotion based device—incapable of ever focusing on a single piece of information longer than a nanosecond—we forget that there are actual lives affected by this decision. We never zoom out and stop discussing this in abstract. Your tax dollars are going to arm Syrian rebel forces. We shrug this off to quickly in this country, realize it doesn’t really “affect me,” then tab away to watch Farah Abraham have sex on camera.

We're having a fundraiser for our upcoming time travel anthology series. Care to help?

Image
OK, this idea is slightly complicated, but I'll try to make it as simple as possible. I need money to make our upcoming anthology release successful, but I hate the idea of asking for money at a total risk to you. So, I don't want to do straight donations. I want you to get something for your money, a guaranteed payout and possibly enough of a payout that it's worth more than the money you spend. Let's have a fundraiser Here's how it's going to work.

This giveaway has been extended, more entry options added. $25 up for grabs.

Image
I wasn't too happy about the number of entries for this giveaway , so I extended it. As I was doing that, I realized although the post mentioned the sponsoring book and publisher, the giveaway really didn't. This giveaway wouldn't be happening without the sponsor, and I want the entry options to bring home the point. The following two collections have recently been featured, and each collection is now featured in an entry option (see details below). Covers link to Amazon
