Project ELE

The ELE Series

Written by Rebecca Gober & Courtney Nuckels

Genre: Young Adult, Sci-Fi

Millions have already died, and thousands more are perishing daily. As a last ditch effort to preserve the human race, the government implements Project ELE.

With the earth heating at rapid speeds, all remaining survivors are forced to turn to F.E.M.A. shelters to wait out ELE's wrath.

Fifteen-year-old Willow Mosby's life, as she knows it, ends the moment she walks through the shelter's door. Willow has to quickly adapt to the new challenges that shelter life demands, the least of which includes making new friends, working a full time job and experiencing her first relationship.

Soon after making an interesting discovery, Willow and her friends start exhibiting strange abilities. Seeking answers, they embark on a mission to find out what these new abilities mean and whether they are a gift or a curse.

This new adventure can send her world crashing down around her. The question is: Can Willow survive the fall?

Walki's Review

"This place is huge. There must be some trouble to be had," says Willow to her friends. And trouble they will find, more than they expected, in the F.E.M.A. shelter under the mountain where people, who tested negative for the virus, are living, while the planet outside is getting unbearably hotter and hotter day by day. The heat should take three years to destroy the virus. Then patches could be placed again on the ozone layer, and human beings could be living on the planet surface again.

While 'Project ELE' provides the readers with a captivating storyline, it is let down by a lack of copy-editing. This dystopian Young Adult novel, narrated by 15-year-old Willow, focuses on four teenagers and their new life. New friendships and first romances blossom in the government-run facility where GPS can locate everyone's location under the mountain. Our heroes manage to bypass this detail, and while going to school in the morning, working in the afternoon, they discover on their days off caves not shown on the official map.

There is humour in the style, entertaining and realistic details in the story, and surprises to keep one reading. Especially when, one by one, the four friends start developing extraordinary powers.

Cleverly, the authors added subtle physical changes to match each power, intriguing the readers and thickening the plot. Willow, Claire, Connor and Alec, have a mystery to solve and a bad guy to discover.

'Project ELE' is a captivating novel that leaves the readers with an unexpected cliffhanger, that makes one want to grab the sequel immediately.
