Let the #Mystery Cover Wars Begin (Round 1)

Image

Play our #mystery scavenger hunt right away. Lots of entry options.

Image
T he Mystery Scavenger Hunt has begun. This time I'm doing it a little differently. The main difference is that most of the entry options are available now, instead of trickling in as the book promos are posted. However, I will be adding options throughout the month, so be sure to come back and enter some more.

Buffer Tell everyone a little bit about yourself. After living almost my entire life in Minnesota, I moved to Florida in 2012. Although I miss seeing snow at Christmas time, I definitely can’t complain about the warmer weather! I have a BA in English Literature with a minor in music, although I’ve mostly done childcare since I graduated from college. I hope to get into a bookish job at some point, whether it be in proofreading, book PR, editing…I just love books! :-) If I could do absolutely any job in the world, I would love to travel the world, helping authors and/or filmmakers to do research on local histories and cultures. I also am a proud lover of musicals, whether on stage or film.

How many people do you think played in our #fantasy scavenger hunt?

Image
D uring the month of July, visitors to the site have been playing a scavenger hunt. Ten fantasy authors (and their books) were featured. Each scavenger hunt question was about either a featured book or a post/page on the author's blog or website.

Buffer Tell everyone a little bit about yourself.  I’ve been a writer for 25 years. First 10 years wrote 12 books, got contracts for 7. Then took 5 years off, wrote 3 books in my head. Then decided I wanted more people than me to read, so got back into writing last 10 years. Wrote 6 books, have contracts for 4. First new one just out in July. Nothing, save meeting the love of my life and bearing him two children, has thrilled me more!

Here's what fans of Since Tomorrow by @MorganNyberg have had to say about the book.

Image
Cover links to Amazon.com Since Tomorrow by Morgan Nyberg Follow @MorganNyberg Since Tomorrow is a really good story about good versus evil. I read a lot of post-apocalyptic and dystopian fiction. "Since Tomorrow" is one of the better examples I've seen of these genres. SINCE TOMORROW is a novel of a world in the remaking. The old man, Frost, remembers the "good times". Those who live on his "farm" among collapsed warehouses and the foundations of vanished houses struggle to maintain human values. But when others in this makeshift world are driven only by greed and the need for power, all values must ultimately be replaced by the simple instinct for survival. Since Tomorrow is a strong story, with well-crafted characters and just the right amount of description. I warn you, though, it will keep you up past your bedtime. This is a magnificent book that lays out an exquisitely formed vision of a broken wor...

If your Amazon ranking drops below 100,000 are you a bestseller? (part 2 of 2)

Image
I f you haven't read part one of this series, you can do so HERE . In that post I mentioned (among other things) a blogger/author who thinks he/she is about to hit bestseller status when (I assume) the book's sales ranking drops below 100,000. A steady sales rank of 100,000 means you are selling about one book a day. Is that the case for the book in question? Not according to NovelRank . The following graph shows the sales rank of the book in question for the past three months.

If your Amazon ranking drops below 100,000 are you a bestseller? (part 1 of 2)

Image
I came across an interesting blog post a few days ago. I won't be so mean as to give away who the blogger/author is, but I must share my thoughts about what was written. The blogger announced the following (paraphrased): I'm really excited that my book is about to be a best seller.

Can a #free book be a bestseller? (syndicated from @DianthaJones)

Image
The following originally appeared on diantha-jones.com . Please take everything I say here as my own personal peeve and nothing more. *Rant Begins* Every evening, I go on my Twitter and follow back some of the few dozen tweeps that follow me everyday. I'm sort of particular in that I only follow back bookish people–authors, book bloggers, publishers, and plain ol' book nerds. The little personal description that most post on their profile helps me decide who fits the criteria and who doesn't (why do so many porn stars follow me? Does anyone else have this problem?)

What kind of reader are you? (Infographic reposted from @LectriceUSA)

Image
W hen it comes to what type of reader you are, there's endless possibilities. Take me for instance. Sometimes I can devour a book in a few hours as if I were always an avid reader, but that isn't the case most of the time. Usually I'm very slow, and I only started reading for fun after I got out of High School. There were times in school that I enjoyed it, but it was forced reading. No one forces me today. What species of reader are you?

Possibly a new feature ... Videos?

Image
This may be the worst idea I've ever had. Well, no, probably not. It may be a very boring idea, though, but I'm going to try anyway. I've put together two videos for you to check out. One is more of a book trailer, and the other one showcases some covers from this month, Fantasy Month. What could I do to make them better? Let me know what you think.

Amazon doesn't know what to think of me.

Image
A ctually, that's probably not true. Amazon's recommendations for me are pretty representative of my downloading and browsing history. However, what made me think of the title of this post is the fact that Amazon recommends pretty much everything for me. Why? Because I am a book marketer, and my personal browsing is pretty varied as well. Check out some of the books Amazon recommends for me All covers link to Amazon.com How well does Amazon recommend books for you?

Romance authors, submit your book for review. Doors open for only 1 week.

I t's time to collect books for Romance month, which will be September. There is one small hitch, though. Because Romance is such a popular genre, we expect to get a lot of requests. However, Romance is not a genre this crew has done very often, so we can't promise how many books will be picked up for review. There is another option, though. This is an opportunity to grow our review crew. If you write Romance books, you likely read them as well. So, I encourage you to join our crew. There won't be any special treatment. Your book may be picked up, and it may not. However, if enough Romance authors join, there will be a greater chance that all Romance books are picked up for review. Join Our Review Crew If you'd like to join our crew, go to the Reviews tab on the navigation menu and click on Join Our Review Crew . Any kind of Romance? Will we accept any Romance book? Yes and no. We will accept any of the Romance subgenres, including erotica. When it comes ...
