Book Synopsis

Nothing announces the failure of one’s life quite as loudly as having to move back in with your mother at the ripe old age of thirty-five. Unfortunately for Scarlett Spencer, her marriage has recently imploded and she’s headed to Beverly Hills—toddler in tow—to move in with her oversexed mother, CeCe. But maneuvering life back at home isn’t the only challenge . . .

After being a stay-at-home mom, Scarlett wades back into the Hollywood employment pool with hilarious results. Even more terrifying is the prospect of reentering the dating world. She soon learns that balancing motherhood with the unique demands of Hollywood men creates a new twist on the dating dilemma. Tired of dating jerk after jerk, Scarlett goes on a self-imposed “man-diet,” which isn’t easy when her mother is perpetually on a manhunt. But in the quiet of this new man-free existence, Scarlett discovers what is really important in her life.

Synchronized Breathing is a cheeky, light-hearted story about moving on and realizing that mother doesn’t always know best.

Jenny B's Review

It's hard for me to describe my feelings about this book, they're very mixed. On one side I really liked this book. It sends out a good message (eventually) and the story is very entertaining.  My favorite character was Oliver. For some reason, when I find out the book I'm going to read has a main character with a small child, I always think twice about my decision to read it, but I usually end up loving it. Cece was great too. Not a very good parent but a crazy and eccentric woman.

The thing is, after about 75% of the book, I started to get bored. Nothing new happened and Scarlett just had the same problems over and over. I didn't feel like the writer was working up to something, normally a book has that and that's why you want to keep reading. The ending kind of satisfied me, I just wish it came sooner.

What annoyed me a bit about this book is that all of the men Scarlett dated (except for the last one) seemed the same to me. They were supposed to be sexy and masculine, I guess, but to me they all seemed kind of feminine. The way the talked, the way they acted.. That was kind of a letdown for me.

So as I said, I've got some mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed it, but it was simply too long.
