The next round of scavenger hunt(s) have now begun. They share a little in common with the one we played during February, March, and the first week of April. Even with that one I wanted to create a crossword style game, but I ran out of time. I've figured it out now, so scavenger hunts from now on will be in the form of crosswords.

Every week or every other week or so (depending on various factors), I'll create a small crossword. Not the huge, complicated kinds you find in the Sunday paper. The first crossword, for example, has only 6 clues. I may play around with how big I want to make them, but they will stay small.

To find the answer to each clue, you'll have to scavenge through posts on this site or Amazon. This first crossword, which is basically serving as a proof of concept, only has you skipping about this site. Don't worry. I'll give you the links. So, for now, it will still be super easy. Later, I may add other ways of challenging you, but let's just figure out the crossword part together, shall we?

Scavenger Hunt Prizes

Prizes will be a little different than in the past. There will be a mini prize for each crossword. And, even better, you'll have a degree of control over what that prize is—in other words, you'll get to pick which book you want as a prize out of a pool of available books. We'll be giving away ebooks and paperbacks primarily, but other prizes may present themselves as we go along.

Sorry there's no information about what exactly is available for mini prizes in this post. Stay tuned for that in another post.

In the meantime, you'll notice on the Rafflecopter widget below that I've got this giveaway good until the end of the year. I'll pick a winner of the mini prize long before that, but the crossword will be live for new ones who haven't played. The prize at that point will be a Kindle Fire.

Now, I can't afford to give away a Kindle Fire with every crossword—at least not yet. Help me grow these scavenger hunt crosswords, and that might just be a reality in the future—hopefully not too distant future.

In the meantime, I plan on giving away a Kindle Fire by the end of the year, though sooner is certainly possible if the cash flow for this site is above average the next few months. If that's the case, we may be giving away a Kindle Fire sometime this summer. Only time will tell.

Why play if the mini prize is gone?

Every entry for each and every scavenger hunt crossword will go into a big pot when it's time to give away a Kindle Fire. So, I encourage you to play each and every one of them.

The more crosswords you play, the more answers you turn in, the greater chance you might win a Kindle Fire.

No more direct credit for sharing

One thing I noticed with the last scavenger hunt is that there were certain players who had a humongous advantage. They shared the hunt every day on Twitter and Facebook. While I certainly appreciate the help in spreading the word, it makes it incredibly difficult for new people to jump on board.

So, I'm trying a little experiment: no more Rafflecopter entries for sharing the hunt. The only entries will be crossword entries.

This will probably take the social media shares down to ... well, next to nothing. I'm OK with that, if it means everyone has an equal chance of winning. If you complete all crosswords, you have an equal chance of winning against someone else who completed all crosswords.

I'll continue to promote the hunt(s) of course, and a lot of people retweet me, so we'll still be OK. But I still encourage you to share it. The more people who play means the more authors will be encouraged to advertise with us, and the more authors who advertise with us means we have more money to devote to giveaways. AKA ... Kindle Fires more often. Or, other nice prizes.
