Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

Since his sister Angela was born, fourteen-year-old Zack has protected her from their abusive father. Now the two are thrown into Lavondel, a world where machines do not work and magic does. In this world his sister has mysterious powers. However, those powers could come at the loss of her soul. In a world where every hand has turned against him, Zack must find the key to saving his sister, and Lavondel, from an evil that has reigned for a thousand years.

How can one boy, alone, pursued by an enraged father, betrayed by a loving mother, and separated from the sister he has sworn to protect, hope to overcome impossible odds to rescue a world? What is the puzzle that has kept Lavondel enslaved to the whims of a cruel and self-centered queen? Who is the cruel mastermind that seeks to gain the ultimate power that could plunge Lavondel into an everlasting rule of evil? Can one lonely, inexperienced boy make a difference?

The story had me from the beginning.

Whenever I start feeling myself relating to or sympathizing with a character I know the author is doing their job well.

Trial in Lavondel is another great read in the author's already impressive portfolio of works.

I would recommend this book to any great lover of fantasy.

Well done Mr. McLaren I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.

What a great read this is!

Franz McLaren's imagination takes us on a journey which catapults the reader from one extreme to another. Fantastic imagery and wonderful narrative carry us into the magical world of Lavondel.

Beautifully written and with superbly wrought characters, this read is a thrilling ride to the very end. I am dying to give away a brilliant twist but I want the next person to be just as surprised!

I highly recommend this book and am about to head off and buy more of Franz McLaren's novels. Buy it.
