Bec's Review

Fairy story is one of those books that plays on not only the classic Fairytales, but also other ideas and myths of fairies (such as the tooth fairy). Most of the story takes place in Fairyland, which is a land for children and the mythical creatures that inhabit it. As such this is more a book for children to young adults though as an adult I did find myself enjoying it despite being one of those who, having grown up, would not suit a large amount of time spent in Fairyland.

While much of the story is suited for children it does have a crossover appeal for adults. As already mentioned I did enjoy it and this enjoyment was furthered by several twists in the story, twists that may go above the head of children or teenagers but which adults will be able to predict and appreciate more. Further the stories and creatures referenced in this book are capable of promoting nostalgia in adults who grew up on the Disney versions of the tale. Two of the stories mentioned are Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, both among some of the older fairytales and known more among adults these days than children.

While I did greatly enjoy the book and while it does have a crossover appeal for both adults and children alike for me it fell short of a full 5 star rating. The story is interesting and kept me wanting to read and yet there was just something about it that falls short of being a fantastic read. But if you are looking for a book that both you and your children can enjoy, or are the sort who has always enjoyed fairytales then give this one a try. The book will make you wish you could go back to the magical time of childhood where anything is possible, as it surely is in this book.
