Only Scandal Will Do

Great story, excellent writing

I enjoy the seductiveness of Regency romances, and Jenna Jaxon's Only Scandal Will Do was a pleasure to read. On her way to a masquerade ball, Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam is kidnapped and taken to be auctioned off at a brothel. Duncan Ferrers, the Marquess of Dalbury, was on his way to the same ball, when a friend convinces him that he should attend the auction. Duncan has a thing for redheads, and when he spies the flame-haired Katarina, he buys her. He doesn't believe her story of kidnapping so she cocks him over the head and escapes.

But she can't outrun scandal and after a sword duel, she reluctantly agrees to marry him. A good part of the book involves Duncan trying to woo his reluctant bride, but Scandal contains enough plot twists and turns to add excitement and keep it interesting. The characters are well-developed and sympathetic, and Duncan, with the care and gallantry he exhibits toward his reluctant wife, is quite a dish. The writing and plotting are excellent.

If you enjoy Regency romance, this one should be at the top of your reading list.

Historical heat that made me tingle in all the right places!

What does a lady do when she's kidnapped and sold in a whorehouse auction?

She should seek the help of a gentlemen and barring that, knock him over the head and run like hell!

Katarina finds herself in a compromising situation with The Marquess of Dalbury. In an attempt to make things right, the Marquess offers to marry her. Though Katarina is fiercely attracted to the handsome rake, she is unwilling to live her life married to him. So she challenges him to a duel for her freedom...if she wins, she goes back to America. If he wins, they immediately marry - like right THEN.

When she loses to the skill of her new husband, Katarina shuts him out of her heart and her bedchamber. Duncan vows to take possession of both and what ensues is a fun, romantic romp between two people with a strong attraction and growing love between them.

I loved this story. The historical accuracy is flawless and the prose is like eating a rich dessert. Well-written and plotted, the story flows fast and I found myself sad when it was over. Highly enjoyable and recommended.

She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her own stories. She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets. When not reading or writing, she indulges her passion for the theatre, working with local theatres as a director. She often feels she is directing her characters on their own private stage.

She has equated her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can't stop.
