The Happenstance Marshal is about someone who is down on their luck and how she turns things around. She does this with her skill and a lot of luck. Although it started out unusually the story definitely picked up as it kept developing. This is a fast paced western book that definitely made me want more.
Millie Boyd is a character full of spunk but with a rarely seen softer side. She has a great cast of supporting characters that I suspect will develop more as the series unfolds. There is a lot of action but not very many twists and turns, it was a straight up thriller and an easy read.
A good author writes about what they know and Michael O'Gara does just that. The book successfully conveys the nuances of how a city office works. My only complaint is that some instances seem just a little hard to believe but still I can't wait to see what Millie gets into next!
