Price: $10A series of book promotion posts on this site will be stops for a scavenger hunt in July. Authors who sign up get a little bit of promotion and hopefully access to a different kind of audience since not everyone is interested in general book promotion, but by offering a fun giveaway alongside the promotion, I'm hoping the turn out will be better.
And the size of the giveaway depends on the number of authors who sign up. The more that sign up, the bigger the prize will be, and with a bigger prize, more people may check out the hunt.
There is an entry fee, but like everything I do on this site, I'm keeping things cheap. For $10 an author gets a blog post during the hunt, and $5 of that will go into the gift card prize fund. So, if we can get at least 5 authors, that would be a $25 prize, enough incentive to get interested parties to the site.
Last week when I first blogged about this I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a multiple blog event. After thinking about it I don't mind, so another thing an author gets for the $10 is a link to a post on their blog, a required stop for those going for the cash prize. As long as an author is OK with attaching something for the hunt, just about any post will do, whatever post he or she wants to draw the most attention to.
How easy or hard it will be to find the info will be based upon how big the grand prize is. I won't make people work super hard for a low cash prize, but if the prize is large enough, I'll make people squint and scratch their head for the info, forcing them to look at posts longer.
Unless an author wants to offer something particular, the post on this site will be a simple promo post with a synopsis, large book cover, and a few positive review quotes (an excerpt if there are no review quotes). Because the entry fee is so cheap (hopefully to attract more authors), there will be no long-term marketing for these posts, which normally consists of tweets weeks and even months after the post has gone live.
The theme of the hunt is fantasy, but I'll be flexible with that definition to allow the most amount of participants as possible. If a book clearly doesn't fit the theme, I'll give the author an extra promo post for the inconvenience.
