Abha's Review

Kindling Flames: Gathering Tinder, the first book in the Ancient Fire series, is a paranormal romance. The story of Darien and Victoria. She's a new college graduate, and impresses him, the CEO of a multimillion dollar company, enough at her interview that she is offered the job as his personal assistant. There are elements of mystery as well, a series of unexplained deaths and arson.

Vicky is a likable character but I find that she is very contradictory. That doesn’t take away from the story per se but it definitely makes the plot and sequence of events less believable. Now remember vampires and werewolves already ask for you to use your imagination, so I have to keep that in mind!

I did really like Darien’s character, a vampire, and likely the oldest in the area at 900 years old. It's apparent the two have a lot of chemistry between them, and it's going to be interesting to see how their relationship evolves.

I wasn’t impressed with the storyline since it was predictable and didn’t really expect to want to continue with the other books however, a few days after reading this first book I find myself wondering what happens next. For that alone I will give this book 3 stars.

So, while this book does end in a cliffhanger, it was a good start. I sure hope Vicky can be a little more real and her character develops into a stronger one.
