She touched the frog. Just once. It leaped into the air and hopped away, disappearing under the classroom desks. It had been awaiting its fate as a science experiment, fully dead, the stench of formaldehyde permeating the room . . .

Seventeen-year-old Reggie has been having a tougher time than usual. As if dealing with her alcoholic mother and fighting school bullies isn’t enough, dead things keep coming back to life and this biker dude shows up in her dreams, babbling about magic and a world called the Other.

Reggie’s life is changing, and she has no idea why. Or whether she should believe Rhys, the man in her dreams, who claims she’s in danger and that someone is coming to take her to a safer reality.

And when Asher shows up, things really get crazy.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rebecca Jaycox's debut novel

What a fabulous journey into an exciting and unique other world! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rebecca Jaycox's debut novel. For those afraid this is just another YA novel to blend into the fold- fear not! Jaycox writes so beautifully, her characters instantly jump off the page and come to life.

It felt like the first time reading Harry Potter- you smile, you gasp, you're delighted, you want more and you want to know what will happen in the future with each character.

Though I reference Potter series, this book is all its own. Its magic and fantasy are fresh and original- not borrowed from the pages of another novel. I look forward to reading many more stories about Reggie and her adventures!

The world of the Other is wonderfully drawn.

I knew I was hooked by Rebecca Jaycox's debut novel when I heard her give a reading at a bookstore. I didn't want her to stop reading, and buried myself in finishing the chapter she selected to read from as she began to sign books. Throughout "The Other Inheritance," I was caught up in the story of teenage Reggie and how she learns to recognize, manage, and harness her powers.

The world of the Other is wonderfully drawn, and puts every reader in touch with the possibilities and "magic" that might lie beyond what we perceive as Real. I especially loved the images of the forest and Reggie's powerful connection to trees. All the book's characters, and Reggie's relationships to them, are beautifully developed.

It's quite an adventure and a YA book that will delight both teenagers and adults. I can't wait for the next installment!!
