Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now The following is syndicated from  venturegalleries.com  and is posted here with permission. O ne of my favorite  movie quotes comes from  Apocalypse Now  where Dennis Hopper’s character refers to Marlon Brando’s:  ”The man is clear in his mind, but his soul is mad.” That strikes me as a perfect metaphor for authors.

Buffer Tell everyone a little bit about yourself. I have a wonderful cat named Romeo who found me just before Valentine’s Day. Music is a very important part of who I am as I listen to it quite a bit, everything from classical to alternative. Don’t try to talk to me in the morning before I have had my coffee, there is no life before coffee. Who are some of your favorite authors?  Books? Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Issac Asimov, Heinlen, and Bradbury are all authors I cut my teeth on. Piers Anthony’s Xanth stories, The Gunslinger Series by Stephen King, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, The Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson.

Buffer   Tell everyone a little bit about yourself. I am an avid reader who loves to bury herself in a book only to emerge when the final page is turned. But I am also a very nit-picky reader who will trip over filters, passive voice, repeated words, will find that inconsistency, hole or not properly foreshadowed twist. I have a strong dislike for preaching of any kind, or overly flowery descriptions. (Three sentences to describe the eyes of the hero, when their colour really doesn't have great impact on the story? Doesn't fly with me.) But I digress. About me, well as I said I'm an avid reader, but I'm also an author, and as such I will spot certain craft issues that the general reader will probably miss. (occupational deformation I guess) I love to cook, fart around in the garden, take long walks, and teach/practice yoga.

Buffer Tell everyone a little bit about yourself. There's a whole helluva lotta voices in my head. Sometimes I'm me, sometimes I'm other versions of me. Around here I'll be Bella, and maybe sometimes Mia. The me I am outside the computer is a stay at home mother and wife with lots of animals. A New England Yankee transplanted into Alabama clay who is working to show them all down here what rebel really means. Who are some of your favorite authors? Books? Piers Anthony and Terry Brooks are favorites for nostalgia's sake. In the big publishing world, I love Joe Abercrombie. In the indie world, I'm all about Diantha Jones although I'm gonna sound like such a suck-up saying that... And then Lisa Eugene and Jeffrey Poole. Individual books, "The Scar" by Sergei and Maria Lukyanenko and The Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Anne Pierce. Michael Kortya and Thaddeus White are quickly ascending.
